A King and a chieftain - pendragon - "Head dragon"

derived from the days of the Roman occupation when
the green dragon of Julius Caesar
indicated a supreme leader of many territories,
changed to red for Britannia, thus
Arthur Pendragon.

His name Arthur itself is derived from Arth-Fawr

meaning Great Bear as in the constellation Ursa Major
(the Great Bear now know unimaginatively as the Big Dipper)
thus Arthur meant "Bear Exalted",
but his given name was Arthwys.

Arthur was born in Pen Ychen (Roman Bovium - now Cowbridge - (kml) )
in Glamorgan in South Wales in 482.
His domain is Ynys Prydein = Britannia = Cymru = Wales
(Wales once included Devon & Cornwall + North & West England + Brittany).

"The twelfth was the most severe contest, when Arthur penetrated to the hill of Badon.
In this engagement nine hundred and forty men fell by his hand alone,
no one but the Lord affording him assistance." Historia_Brittonum-Nennius
516 AD The Battle of Badon, in which Arthur carried the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ
for three days and three nights on his shoulders and the Britons were the victors.
(Bellum Badonis, in quo Arthur portavit crucem Domini nostri Jhesu Christi
tribus diebus et tribus noctibus in humeros suos et Brittones
victores fuerunt.) Annales Cambriae

At the Battle of Camlan (Camlann) Annales Cambriae Arthur met Mordred.
Mordred was his cousin on his mother's side.

(Gwrgant Mawr was Arthur's grandfather and
Mordred's great Grandfather.

(Guinevere had the same Great-Grandfather,
but a different Grandfather).

At Camlan on the Llŷn (Lleyn) Peninsula Mordred met Arthur.
He was slain,

and Arthur appeared to be mortally wounded.
Arthur was taken to Bardsey Island (Avalon) (kml) by Merlin
where he was healed by Morgan le Fay.
(Morgan the Fair was Modrun: Arthur's grandmother and
daughter of Afallach, King of Lleyn).

Vita Merlini (The Life of Merlin)

"The island of apples which men call “The Fortunate Isle” gets its name from the fact that it produces all things of itself; the fields there have no need of the ploughs of the farmers and all cultivation is lacking except what nature provides. Of its own accord it produces grain and grapes, and apple trees Bardsey Island apples are a unique species.) grow in its woods from the close-clipped grass. The ground of its own accord produces everything instead of merely grass, and people live there a hundred years or more.

There nine sisters rule by a pleasing set of laws those who come to them from our country. 48 She who is first of them is more skilled in the healing art, and excels her sisters in the beauty of her person. Morgen is her name, and she has learned what useful properties all the herbs contain, so that she can cure sick bodies. She also knows an art by which to change her shape, and to cleave the air on new wings like Daedalus; when she wishes she is at Brest, Chartres, or Pavia (Paris) and when she will she slips down from the air onto your shores. And men say that she has taught mathematics to her sisters, Moronoe, Mazoe, Gliten, Glitonea, Gliton, Tyronoe, Thitis; Thitis best known for her cither.

Thither after the battle of Camlan we took the wounded Arthur, guided by Barinthus to whom the waters and the stars of heaven were well known. With him steering the ship we arrived there with the prince, and Morgen received is with fitting honour, and in her chamber she placed the king on a golden bed and with her own hand she uncovered his honourable wound and gazed at it for a long time.

At length she said that health could be restored to him if he stayed with her for a long time and made use of her healing art. Rejoicing, therefore, we entrusted the king to her and returning spread our sails to the favouring winds."

Arthur then retired and became St. Armel (Arthmael) of Brittany
(See Albert Le Grande's Lives of Saints of Brittany)
while also defeating Marcus Conomorus (King March & Comorre)
who had seized Armorican Domonia
which included Lyonesse.

He died in 562 and his tomb is located at St. Armel des Boschaux in Brittany (kml)
